Typer av myom

Förutom storleken och formen av myom i livmodern är positionen även en viktig faktor för bedömning av svårighetsgraden av symtom och beslut om behandling:

  • Submukösa myom – livmoderväggen är täckt på insidan av ett lager av celler liknande slemhinnan i magsäck och vagina. Vissa myom växer direkt under denna slemhinna.
  • Intramurala myom – livmodern utgörs av starka muskler som utvidgas under graviditet och kraftigt dras samman under förlossning. Vissa myom växer mellan muskelfibrerna på insidan av den tjocka livmoderväggen.
  • Subserösa myom – utsidan av livmodern är täckt av ett särskilt hudlager (serös hinna). Vissa myom växer direkt under detta yttre livmoderlager.
  • Stjälkformade myom – vissa submukösa och subserösa myom är länkade till livmodern med stjälkliknande strukturer.

Myom klassificeras enligt positionen i livmodern.
